Academic Advising is here to help!

Whether you are relatively new to OSU or a seasoned veteran, keep in contact with your advisor to stay informed and maximize your education.

Your advisor is a “facilitator,” here to help you identify and make meaning of options, obligations, and opportunities that can help you reach your goals.

Your Academic Advisor works in partnership with you. They help you to tend to the logistics of getting your degree (course selection and auditing your progress), maximize your educational experience (integration into campus and academic culture, supplementing your classroom experiences with learning outside of the classroom, pursuing support for academic success) and set the stage for life after your undergraduate degree (career planning, preparing for graduate/professional school).

Each of OSU’s undergraduate colleges and academic programs has unique procedures for declaring majors in their area. Here is a guide to help you understand these various processes.

Be sure to access and regularly utilize the MyOSU Portal for access to your student information, registration, MyDegrees, etc. This can be especially useful as you prepare for advising appointments.

In the spring of 2006, OSU’s Council of Head Advisors adopted common Advisor/Advisee expectations toward consistent practice across campus.
