Note to the OSU (Corvallis) Campus Community
Benton County officials posted a major flood warning Thursday afternoon for the Mary’s River near Philomath. Prolonged and at times heavy rain is causing the river levels to rise and officials expect the river to reach flood level by around 8 p.m. tonight and crest at 21 feet by early Friday morning.
Flooding is expected to be especially severe on the south side of the Marys River in the vicinity of Chapel Drive and Grange Hall Road. Sand bags will be available at 20th Avenue and College Street in Philomath, as well as Benton County Public Works.
County officials say it is important to stay alert and use caution when traveling, check personal preparedness supplies and plans, and make sure animals and property are secure. Even a few inches of water can be enough to sweep a vehicle off the road, so people should not attempt to drive through high water.
The county is posting information on road closures and high-water alerts at the Benton County Public Works website:https://www.co.benton.or.us/publicworks/page/emergency-road-notifications.
