"I feel as though my network in Corvallis has been greatly expanded through participation in the club."
The Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS) Club provides professional development, community service and social opportunities geared toward HDFS students.
Who can join? Why join?
Although we are primarily for HDFS majors, anyone who is interested in the club is welcome to join. Our club is a great opportunity for participating in community service, professional development and social events, while not having too high of a commitment level. We host at least three events a term and meet a couple of times each term.
How did you get involved?
I got involved with HDFS Club because some of my HDFS classes would advertise the meetings. Since it is the club for my major, I knew that it would be a perfect fit.
What is your best memory?
The best memory I have of this club is of volunteering at Regency Park Place Assisted Living with 20 other volunteers for their Valentine’s Day Senior Prom. Everyone made the event so fun, and it was great to see all of the residents having a great time!
What is the community like?
HDFS Club frequently interacts with the community for events. All of my experiences with the community have been extremely positive. Everyone has been kind and appreciative of our volunteer work. Community members have also come to club meetings for professional development events, which has been a great way to learn more about career and leadership-related areas.
When did you first feel a sense of belonging on campus?
I first felt a sense of belonging on campus living in the dorms. Everyone was super friendly and inviting.
How have you grown from being involved?
This club has definitely helped me improve my leadership skills and has made me feel more comfortable contacting professionals in the community for information and coordinating events. I feel as though my network in Corvallis has been greatly expanded through participation in the club.
